About Charlotte Duke
I am a Teacher and Nursery Nurse who has over twenty years of experience and a wealth of knowledge about children, young people and adults experiencing special needs. After recently leaving the Advisory Teaching Service I have become an independent Education Consultant providing developmental, educational and communication support and advice to settings and families working and living with individuals with Special Needs.
My background of Nursery Nursing plays a massive part in my role to date - it enables me to teach and advise from a developmental / holistic / 'whole-child' stance. I began my career in SEND in the Early Years, in a highly specialist environment. I have worked with many children who have had diagnosed and undiagnosed conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy etc.
Further teaching posts led me to teach in Key Stages 1 & 2 for children with Communication and Interaction SEN and associated difficulties e.g sensory and auditory processing.
More recently in my capacity of Advisory Teacher I have been working with individuals with ADHD, cognition, communication, SEMH and anxiety difficulties.
As well as working directly with individuals / groups, I am extremely experienced and confident in attending meetings with parents / carers and multi-agency colleagues to make outcomes for individuals.
I am also very adept in writing comprehensive reports towards statutory assessment and working within multi-agency teams, giving written advice on the assessment of children towards a diagnosis of Autism.
I have a deep understanding of Pedagogy, and it's implications on how children learn and develop. I pride myself in being astute at identifying possible barriers to learning that individuals face. Over the years I have become confident and competent in providing quality support, advice, resources and strategies that will enable individuals to become more independent, communicative, access their learning, develop and meet their potential.
I work with individuals (pre-school, school age, adults) and staff in settings and in the home environment with families.
I am also able to provide support / development to settings on specific topics / provide training.
My CV, recommendations / testimonials are available upon request.
