About Charmaine Roche

Charmaine Roche is a company director, consultant and executive coach building on an extensive career as a leader in the education sector.

As an education professional, she worked extensively across a broad range of school types and contexts over 29 years. Her leadership experience spanned eight years in addition to a period of advisory work across two LAs. She has served as a Head of English, Assistant and Deputy Head Teacher.

Her voluntary work includes serving on the board of The Society of Education Consultants and as a Regional Leader for WomenED, a nonprofit networking group that seeks to promote the advancement of greater diversity in school leadership by encouraging more women and ethnic minority teachers to aspire to and attain leadership positions.

2008-2013: Deputy Head Teacher, The City School Sheffield, (L24).

Acting Head Teacher from September 2012 to March 2013.

Specialist Leader in Education Status awarded in February 2012, NCTL.
Middle Leader Development and Coaching.

Assistant Head Teacher, Smith's Wood Sports College, Chelmsley Wood, Solihull MBC.
Coaching on the NCSL Leading from the Middle-Leadership Pathways Programme for four years. Her coachees went on to lead successful faculties with good to outstanding results.

2000-2004: Teaching and Learning Consultant, Secondary, Solihull MBC. She was a lead consultant supporting Heads and Deputies in school self-evaluation and intervention planning focused on Teaching and Learning.
She coached and mentored middle leaders and senior managers developing their role as leaders of learning in their schools as in an integral part of my consultancy role across the LA. She also wrote the LA policy on coaching. Coaching was advocated as a strategic part of transforming a school culture, supporting organisational learning and raising standards

1999-2000: Teaching and Learning Advisory Teacher, Stoke on Trent, MBC. During this period she trained as a facilitator for Transformation Coaching Programme commissioned by Stoke on Trent LA for its workforce.

1994-1999: Head of English, Mosley School and Sixth Form Centre, Birmingham LA. During this period she became a Paul Hamlyn Fellow and Teaching Coach with the University of the First Age (UFA)

1987-1992: Advisory Teacher developing the teaching of EAL learners across the curriculum MPG, FT. in this role she modelled approaches to lesson and curriculum planning working alongside teachers and subject leaders to meet the needs of EAL students across the curriculum.
