About Steve Bristow

Professor Steve Bristow specialises in governance, strategic analysis, policy evaluation and quality assurance in the education and training and charities sectors. He established Open Direction Ltd in 2002 and has held major contracts with several public bodies in Wales as well as undertaking evaluations for several charities, professional bodies and private colleges in England. He is an Evaluation Expert for Higher Education with the European Commission. In Kosovo, he has advised the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on higher education since 2008 and is one of three international members of the National Quality Council of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency. He is a Quality Champion at the South East European University, Macedonia and has current projects in Albania.

Previous Experience

Professor Bristow held senior posts in three Polytechnics before becoming Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glamorgan in Wales and then Principal and Chief Executive of Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology. In recent years he has been Head of Inspection Services/Senior Advisor (Quality Assurance and Governance) at the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education and Chief External Examiner for the Institute of Directors.

Other Information

Past President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and former Dean of the College of Teachers, Professor Bristow is a founding Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Educators in the City of London.
